Catanzaro as a capital of Calabria

I convinced my friend Petra that I really need to visit Catanzaro. Why? Well, this city was on my bucked list for 7 years. When I started to plan trips in Italy after my job as a babysitter, my target was clear: visiting every capoluogo in the whole country. Capoluogo means the capital. The problem is that Calabria is not really consider as a place in Italy where a young girl should travel alone. Everybody knows that it is kind of centre of Mafia (well, I didn´t). So, I decided to postpone this trip. Until now.

A story: There was really a creepy guy who was checking the tickets in the sort of train which leads from the area of Lido beach to teh city. He actually took a selfie picture with me and my friend and invited us for a dinner.

A few facts:
- capoluogo (the capital of region Calabria)
- second biggest city in Calabria region
- less than 10 000 inhabitants
- not many original buildings left
- the bridge "Ponte Bisantis" is one of the highest in Europe
- beach LIDO

A few pictures:

Another "capoluogo" on my Italian bucket list: checked.

Scilla as a place with many legends

Actually Scilla was quite unexpected trip. We didn´t plan to go there at all. The thing is that we fisnihed quite early in Reggio Calabria and I suggested Petra to go to one more place which would be on the way back home. And for some reason I´ve chosen the Scilla which I knew nothing about.

A story: We were so hungry that we ended up in the first restaurant we saw. It is usually like this. It was with the view on the sea and looked really fancy. We left very disappointed and we just ordered the most simple sauce - pomodoro. Also, I fall in love with the boutique which sells amazing dress. Unfortunately it was closed. You know that I always support local fashion designers. That´s also one of the reasons why most of the time I like shopping abroad.

A few facts
- the mythical rocks which are described in Odyssea as a seat of 6 heads monster
- historical little village
- close to Reggio di Calabria
- good starting point for a trip to national park Aspromonte
- the rock with castle called Ruffo
- beach
- tourists

A few photos

Scilla was a random choice on the way back home. And I must say that it´s one of the most beautiful cities in Calabria.

Regards from Scilla

Reggio Calabria as the biggest city in Calabria

From Reggio Calabria you see my favourite island - Sicily. You can take a boat from Reggio di Calabria and go to Messina in Sicily (I have been there as well). Not sure about fellings from this city. There are just too many contradictions. On one side you can feel the modern and luxury, on the other side you will feel the poverty quite strong.

A story: Ok, so there was one strange thing. They built a moving escalatory in the middle of the city which is replacing the footway. It goes very slow and there is even not such a hill. So, I don´t quite understand and never seen something like that before.

A few facts
- the biggest city on Calabria region
- originally, it was the capital of Calabria
- more than 180 000 inhabitants
- modern buildings, luxury shops
- very long shopping street
- on the other hand: poor parts, industry
- no tourist
- beach

A few photos

The advantge of this place: there are no tourists! On the other hand, there is not much to see.
