Unfortunately Sarajevo is kind of symbol of suffering from the war and you can feel it everywhere. It´s not so long ago when the war ended. People are still recovering, they are pretty careful and if you look into their faces you can see sadness. This war has changed the whole nation and all people of Sarajevo.
My recommendattions
Čajdžnica Džirlo - traditional drink Salep
Bijela Tabija - amazing views over the city
Pekara Kovaci Kod Mahira - Bosnian pizza (take away)
Did you know that
... about 400 000 inhabitants
... there are Czechoslovak trams
... the main attraction of Sarajevo is the old Ottoman bazaar - Baščaršija
... the city is not rich, houses are destroyed
... during the war in 1992 - the longest siege of history, it took almost 4 years
... when you walk in the city, pay attention, you can see the impact of war everywhere
... Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand (successor to the Austro-Hungarian throne) and his wife
.... from Mostar you can get there by bus, but it´s also possible by train. If you travel from another country I would recommend an aircraft
A few photos
Memorial to children killed during the siege of Sarajevo 1992 - 1995. It was built by families who lost their children in the war. On the second photo you see the footprints of killed children.
The viewpoint from Bijela Tabija.
Free time - the tickets to the cinema are so cheap that we went to watch a movie even twice during our stay.
A bit from gastronomy. "Indijanek" is my favourite dessert and it´s not so easy to find it abroad.
Čajdžnica Džirlo - traditional drink Salep. The owner is so nice and friendly. Highly recommend it. I also fall in love with Salep drink so my brother brought me from Macedonia 2 packs of Salep.
When I travel, I always wanna visit the capital city. Sarajevo is really unique and you will not find any other city like this.
Regards
Misa
