Macocha Abyss as the biggest gorge of its kind in the Central Europe

Hello,
my boyfriend and I planned to spend one weekend, just one weekend doing nothing. That´s because this summer was crazy. We were travelling all the time and no resting at all. How did our lazy weekend in September ended? On Saturday we made a trip to Macocha, the most famous abyss in the Czech Republic. Yes, we don´t know how to be lazy :-)

A few facts:
- more than 138 m deep
- the biggest gorge of its kind in the Czech Republic and even in the Central Europe
- located in Moravia, close to Brno city
- the tickets for  visiting the Punkva Caves are totally sold out, so book it few months in advance of you wanna go there during the summer season
- there is a legend related to Macocha abyss which you can find at the end of your reading

We were very lucky. Even if there was a sign of solding out the tickets for the day, they found 2 places. It is quite unique experience, going on a boat through caves.

After visiting the caves,we are exploring the area.

They teach about Macocha Abyss already at Elementary school. This is the first time, I was visiting it. There is a quite a story/legend which is related to Macocha. Long story short the Macocha is a name for stepmother in Czech language. The stepmother wanted to get rid of het stepson so she just threw him down go the abyss. However he survived and angry people from local village threw her down in return for what she did and she died.

Regards
Michalka
